Michael "Nawagwaneb" Turner III was born July 30, 2011, to Alicia "Sis" Weaver and Michael "Black" Turner Jr. He suddenly passed on July 5, 2025.
Nawagwaneb spent his life in Naytahwaush with his mother, Dawn Kier and his Gram, Carol Turner. As a younger kid, he enjoyed spending time at home with his mom and going on adventures across the country attending powwows, ceremonies, storming the capital, doing Sugar Bush, being a Water Protector and being an Uncle. Although traveling or exploring the country was fun, he truly enjoyed spending time at home with his mom, siblings, niece and nephews or just playing his game. He enjoyed fishing to some extent, and in recent years, he developed a true admiration for guns and enjoyed "hunting" by himself or with his buddies, hoping to one day provide food for his family at home or ceremonially items for his Waasegaming Family. He had big dreams of becoming a provider for his family and community as a whole.
Throughout the family and community, you will hear stories of his impeccable timing, sense of humor and ability to lighten the room with his smile or "blowing a kiss" as a way of greeting and acknowledging people. Living a somewhat quiet and private life, it sometimes took a lot to get him to leave the house. Being very selective about who he spent his time with, he truly enjoyed and loved the time with the Bros, Buddies and friends playing ball, hunting, playing his game, going to boxing gym, chillin, or just walking around the village. He is, of course, remembered for his good looks that he knew he had, yet was humble about it, and carried himself in a respectful and helpful manner. Sure, Michael had the typical teenage boy attitude at times, but at his core he's a big ol mama's boy and is quite the loving, caring, helpful and respectful young man.
In recent years he took to drumming and singing at powwows with the White Earth Jrs Drum Group. Which led to becoming an integral part of drum group at his school, The Circle of Life Academy, where he had just finished his 7th grade year. When Michal wasn't singing at the powwow with his bros, he was dancing with his mom and the Christina Keezer family.
Nawagwaneb will be dearly missed and his legacy remembered by his mom, Alicia "Sis" Weaver; his mother, Dawn Kier; his grandparents, Carol Turner, Patleen (Jeff) Straub, Mike Weaver, and Missy Brown; great grandma, Sharon (Jim) Brandon; siblings: Ryan Fry, Ericka Bellanger, Robert Keezer III, and Cassidy Burnette; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Anxiously waiting to greet him in the Spirit World is his father, Michael Turner Jr.; an infant sibling; grandpa, Mike Turner Sr.; grandma, Donna Fairbanks; aunts: Mya, Melissa "Mid" and Natasha; great grandfathers, Spence Fairbanks and Mike Keezer; and his great grandma, Shirley Belland; as well as many extended family members.
Traditional Services will be held at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. All-night Wake Services will begin Thursday, July 10, 2025, starting at 5:00 pm with a ceremony at 7:00 pm and continue until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will take place at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Naytahwaush, MN.
