Michael John Weide, 67, of Swanton, VT, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 28th, 2023, at Northwestern Medical Center in Saint Albans, Vermont.
He was born on November 16, 1956, to Erwald "Ozzie" and Carol Weide in Arlington Heights, IL. He grew up in Palatine, IL. He attended Emmanuel Lutheran Grade School then Palatine High School of Class of 1974. Michael graduated from U of I with a degree in civil engineering.
After high school, Michael joined the US Coast Guard and served for 4 years off the coast of Maine from 1974-1978. Following his discharge from the Coast Guard, Michael lived in San Diego, CA and eventually made his way back to Illinois. In 1988, he married Dru and in 1989 they had their only daughter, Jessi.
Michael was employed by many engineering companies, including the city of Dekalb, and eventually owned one of his own construction companies. Later in life, he reunited and married his long lost love, Kathy Kohlhaas in 2017. They soon moved to Vermont together and lived in a beautiful home on a small farm. His latest employment included working for the City of Burlington, VT in 2017 along with being contracted by the engineering firm of Dubois and King.
Michael is survived by his mother Carol McMullin, his daughter Jessi (Jose) Fiscal, grandson Emiliano, cousin Linda Garcia, sister-in-law Jean Weide, niece Rachel (Josh) Landa, step-sister Ellen (Carl) Mumford, step-niece Kim Knudten, step-nephew Chad (Ashleigh) Mumford, and his former wife Kathy Kohlhaas.
Michael is preceded in death by his father Ozzie, twin brother John, and stepfather Jim.
There will be no services.
