Michael Stewart Werner

Michael Stewart Werner, 89, of Kokomo passed at 3:23 am, Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at the Waterford Place of Kokomo, where he resided.
Michael Werner was born on December 24, 1935, in St. Charles, Missouri, to the late Orlando M. and Gwendolyne (Young) Werner. He graduated from Peru High School and, on December 21, 1954, married JoAnn Boettjer in Peru, Indiana. She preceded him on January 21, 2020. Michael proudly served his country in the National Guard.
After 42 years of dedicated work, Mike retired from Chrysler in 1998, where he was employed as a machine repairman. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to pursue many other ventures-he worked as a real estate agent, auctioneer, and appraiser, and even owned his own construction company. Earlier in his career, he was employed at Cuneo Press in Kokomo.
Mike found joy in golf, tending to his yard, and spending time with his community. He was a member of the UAW, Promise Keepers, and a devoted Christian through his membership in the Lutheran Church. Above all, his greatest joy was his grandchildren, who were truly his world. Known for his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need, Mike will be remembered with deep love and greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn, son Gregory, grandson James Swain, brothers David and John, and sisters Elizabeth Fortney and Olga Werner.
He is survived by his children sons Jeff Werner and Michael Werner and wife Mary of Akron; daughter Mona and husband Dan Swain; daughter-in-law Denise Werner; 11 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; Great Great Grandson; sisters Judy and husband Harry Beard, Nancy and husband Richard Clingaman, and Louise and husband Jim Reabe; sister-in-law Janice Kelsey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana. Military honors will take place after the service at the funeral performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
The interment will take place next to his wife in the Saint John's Lutheran Cemetery of Peru, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Indiana.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Legion of the donor's choice.
