Richard D. "Dick" Tilden, 93, of Akron, Indiana passed peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester, where he had resided for the last 11 months.
Dick was born on July 21, 1932, in Akron, Indiana, to the late Russell and Joy M. (Geiger) Tilden. He graduated from Akron High School in 1950. On August 11, 1951, he married Carolyn Ann Helvey, who remained his beloved wife until her passing on December 5, 2020.
After a long career with Pike Lumber Company, Dick retired but continued working part-time, managing tree farms across three states. He and Carolyn cherished their time together, often sitting on the porch and watching life unfold in Akron. Dick found joy in teaching his children the game of basketball, sharing his love for the sport with them.
He had a passion for firearms and fishing, especially on trips to Minnesota with close friends. Around town, he was often seen driving his golf cart or UTV, enjoying coffee, and swapping stories. Above all, Dick was a devoted and loving father, whose presence enriched the lives of his family.
He is survived by his children Mike (Pam) Tilden, Akron; Jeff (Nancy) Tilden, Akron; Scott (Cindy) Tilden, Akron; Lori (DeLynn) Tilden-Geiger, Warsaw; Tricia Tilden (Dustin Hook), Akron; and sister Nellene Rentschler, Logansport. Dick is also survived by his grandchildren Cassandra Eherenman, David Tilden, Stephanie Heckel, Ryan Tilden, Wendy Tilden, Hillary Johnson, Mallory Deardorff-Dawson, Alex Deardorff, Graham Geiger, Shane Potter, and Blane Potter along with their spouses, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Janis Sue Mayhew.
The funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 14, 2025 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Akron, Indiana with Pastor JP Freeman officiating.
His interment will take place immediately following the service in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, Indiana.
Visitation hours will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, Friday, November 14, 2025 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Indiana.
