Michael Dee Westmoreland was born on November 21, 1948, in Palestine, Texas, and passed away on August 23, 2025, at his home in Big Sandy, Texas.
Mike will always be known as a devoted husband, hard worker, and someone you could count on. He was always willing to help in any way he could.
Michael was born to parents Velmar Dee Westmoreland (father) and Francis Nellie Austen Westmoreland (mother), who preceded him in death.
Michael met the love of his life, Helen Janice Miller Westmoreland in Athens, Texas. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married December 15, 1978. Helen preceded Mike in death.
Dogs were a large part of Mike and Helen’s life. They were extremely passionate about the greyhounds they rescued. Goldie, Rosie, and Daisy soon found themselves in Mike and Helen’s heart. After the three greyhounds, Joey, and then Katie, were welcomed into the Westmoreland home.
Mike retired from Solar Turbine after 20 years and often said that it was the best job he ever had.
Everyone that knew Mike knew how much he loved to fish. He was always ready to go fishing. Which was difficult to understand because he seldom caught any.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, sister and wife. He is survived by his sister Mary Helen Lee of Mississippi, daughter Tammy Green and Grandson Lance Green of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Son James Westmoreland of Hot Springs Arkansas, Daughter and Son-in-Law Michele and David Stanley of Big Sandy, Texas, Stepdaughter and Son-in-Law Tracy and Paul Stephens, Grandson Blake Stephens of Bullard, TX and Granddaughter Hillary McClellan of Overton.
Mike had a huge heart and a great sense of humor. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
