Michael Zur Obituary

Michael J Zur

1958 - 2024

Sandy, UT-After a hard fought battle with cancer, on Tuesday March 19th, 2024 Michael Josef Zur was reunited with his parents, Ingaborg (Flurer) and Gerhard Zur, and younger brother Richard Zur. He will be missed dearly by his wife the girl he loved and held tight, Jody; by his children, Jennifer, Dylan (Heather), Jason, and Michelle (Rob); by his grandchildren, Isiah, Abigail, Braxton, and Rowan; by his sister Heidi (Mark); by his Brothers-in-law, Ryan, Brandon (Nancy), Corbin (Erica); many loved nieces and nephews; and countless others who called him friend.

Mike, with his bright and generous soul, always made sure that those around him were taken care of. After losing his own father to cancer at a young age, he took great care in looking after his mother until her passing in 2014. He became a young single father to two children, whom he loved and adored. The love for his children is one of the things Jody found endearing about him, and the pair soon joined with their children to become a family of five, and later six. He worked multiple jobs and went to school to support his family. After graduating from the University of Utah, he started working at DMBA where he had a successful and fulfilling career of 30+ years.

Mike had a boisterous spirit and an infectious sense of humor. He was always singing songs and making jokes, or making jokes out of songs. He had been an avid athlete both playing and watching sports throughout his life, but had a special love for soccer and enjoyed going to RSL games with his family. He had a healthy sense of adventure. For his 50th birthday, he even went skydiving because he'd always wanted to fly. Mike loved to travel with his wife and family. He was most in his glory floating with the sea turtles in the waters of Maui, hiking the trails of the Rockies, or soaking up the sun on a Caribbean beach while sampling local cuisine from an island beach shack. At home or away, Mike loved to explore on his daily walks, hikes, or floats, and heartily embraced the world around him. We hope he's flying high and able to see it all. Wir werden dich vermissen, Vater, Bruder, Onkel, Opa und Ehemann! Bring sie zum Lachen und gib ihnen die Holle im Himmel!

A Celebration of Life will be held for Mike at a later date TBD.

Mike, was very thoughtful and kind. He was very thorough in preparing the complex work programming and benefits system. He had a great sense of humor and had a gift to keep work issues in perspective. It was a great experience to work with him for quite a number of years. I am grateful to know him and share my deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.

I was sad to learn that Mike wasn't doing well and then to hear of his passing. He was my co-worker for many years and was willing to take the time to explain things to me, making my end product better. One specific memory is attending an out of state training together. He and his wife were very kind and helpful to my mom and I. My condolences to the entire family.

Dear Jodi and family, I am so sad to read this. Michael was one of the best co-workers to us at DMBA, so smart and helpful! He was greatly missed when he retired. May you and your family have peace and blessings at this difficult time.
