Miguel C. Garcia Jr., known affectionately to friends and family as Mike, passed away after a lengthy illness on May 30, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 70. Born on October 24, 1954, in Acuña, Mexico, Mike was a man of great intelligence and wit, despite his limited formal education.
Mike worked for most of his life in the oilfields as a Tool pusher. His work was a great source of pride for him and showcased his strong work ethic and dedication. He was well-respected among his peers and known for his tenacity both on and off the job.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Rosa Garcia, and his brothers Rudy, Julian, and Juan Antonio, as well as his beloved niece Rosie.
Mike is survived by a family who will miss him dearly. His former wife, Enedina Garcia, stood by him as a best friend, loyal companion, and faithful caregiver up until his very last breath. She always said that she would never remarry after their divorce in case he ever needed her. She wanted to be able to drop what she was doing to take care of him when the time came, and that's exactly what she did. She is the most beautiful example of unconditional love that we've ever been privileged to witness. Dad always looked for you Mom, no matter the situation and you were a great source of strength and comfort to him. We will be forever grateful to you. Thank you for all you did for our dad. We love and appreciate you more than you'll ever know. His beloved children, Miguel Reyes Garcia, Dora Longoria and her husband Luis, and Veronica Ortiz and her husband Cruz, brought him immense joy, as did his cherished grandchildren Michelle Garcia, Rebekah Garcia, Hayle Garcia, Angel Garcia, Sophia Longoria, Lorenzo Longoria, Nathan Haby and his wife Lia, Morgan Haby, and Kevin Haby. Their families continue to honor his memory through the stories and lessons he imparted to them.
He is also survived by his siblings, Rosa Garcia (Armando), Anacleto Garcia (Lola), Refugio Garcia (Martha), Rebecca Garcia, Guadalupe Hernandez, Manuel Zamudio (Dominga), and Jose Luis Garcia (Amanda), along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the service will include Miguel Garcia, Luis Longoria, Lorenzo Longoria, Cruz Ortiz, David Garza, and Gabriel Lopez.
As we say farewell to Miguel C. Garcia Jr., we reflect on a life well-lived, filled with the love of family, the satisfaction of a job well done, and the countless memories shared with those who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
Special thanks to all of the nurses, physical therapists, and home health aides at Shannon Home Health for always taking such good care of him even when he didn't feel up to it. Your patience and loving care are appreciated more than you'll ever know.
A private ceremony will be held to celebrate Mike's journey and the indelible mark he has left on the hearts of those he touched. As we lay him to rest, we take solace in knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us through the lives of his children and grandchildren. Miguel C. Garcia Jr. will be deeply missed but forever remembered with fondness and love.
