Regis Michael “Mike” Beirne passed away at age 78 on December 30 after bravely battling dementia. Mike was born on April 10, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Regis and Mary Beirne.
Mike graduated from McKeesport High School in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and was a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky where he played football in the 60’s and met his wife of 55 years Carol. He spent over 40 years as an educator and coach. He served as head baseball coach at Northwest High School in Cincinnati for 20 years and still holds the record for most wins and was the first coach inducted to the Northwest Athletic Hall of Fame. He also served as an assistant football coach at Roger Bacon, Northwest High School, Withrow, Simon Kenton and Campbell County.
Mike is survived by his wife Carol Stenken Beirne and his sisters Maureen (Tom) Diffendal and Jeanne Stebbene and preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jim and Patrick.
He is also survived by his son, Dion (Sheri) Smith; nephews Sean (Erika) and Matthew (Cody) O’Brien, Kevin (Susan) and Mike (Katie) Beirne, Matt (Tina) and Adam (Brooke) Diffendal, and Andrea (Patrick) Guiltinan; grandchildren Cameron and Jacob Smith; and great nieces and nephews Ella and Hagan O’Brien, Barrett, Mason and Rory Beirne, Wyatt, Trent, Mason and Lauren Diffendal, and Ethan and Elliot Guiltinan.
Services will be held Saturday, January 13 at St. Agnes Church in Park Hills, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 10AM-noon followed by Funeral Mass.
There will be a private family burial.
