Patrick Michael "Mike" Doyle, age 88, passed away peacefully in his home on September 9, 2025, surrounded by family.
Mike was born May 4, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Patrick and Marie Doyle. Mike graduated in 1955, from Marshall High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota where he played as the goaltender for the Gophers Men's Hockey Team. He also served in the Naval Reserves for nine years. Mike was a French teacher and hockey coach at Chisolm High School, where he started the hockey program, from 1961 to 1967. Mike married Margie on August 1, 1964. He went on to teach and coach at Minneapolis Edison High School, as well as serve as the athletic director from 1967 to 1995. Following his retirement, Mike went on to hold many more positions, from gate agent with Mesaba Airlines to volunteering for 4-H, Red Wing Girls Hockey, Gandy Dancers, and Our Saviour's Church. Mike loved traveling the world, serving on mission trips, playing golf on the Gopher Hills Senior Men's League, trains, and attending grandchildren's events.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Margie Doyle; five children, Rick Doyle of Welch, Nancy (Todd) Pehrson of Spring Creek, NV, Liz (Bob) Oberding of Welch, Christine (Jay) Halvorsen of Woodbury, and Amy (Tate) Moening of Welch; six grandchildren, Kayla (Trevor) Walswick, Nicole Oberding, Ava Halvorsen, Thomas Halvorsen, Isaac Moening, and Kendall Moening; as well as the first great-granddaughter, due in October. Mike is also survived by two brothers, Paul (Karen) Doyle of Red Wing, and Peter (Gloria) Doyle of Warrensburg, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special cousin, Sue Halvorson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Marie Doyle; and infant son.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 18, from 3pm to 7pm at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, 30370 County 24 Blvd, Cannon Falls.
A celebration of life service for Mike Doyle will be held on Friday, September 19, at 11am at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Banks officiating. The family encourages all to join them for lunch and fellowship immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Mike's memory to Our Saviour's missions.
