Mike Kerns
October 29, 1986 – November 17, 2024
Snow Hill-Kenneth Michael "Mike" Kerns, Jr. passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center early on Sunday, November 17, 2024. Mike was born in Warren County, Virginia to Kenneth Michael Kerns, Sr., and Julie Ann Crawford Mondragon on October 29, 1986.
Possessing a great love for the outdoors, Mike lived to be in the open air. Holding several jobs throughout his life, he was never happy at a job unless he could be working outside. When not working, he looked forward to casting a line and catching a fish every time the opportunity arose.
With a zest for life, Mike was easy to love. Those whom he met became instant friends, as Mike's great sense of humor and conversation skills quickly enveloped them and created lifelong connections. He could make anyone laugh, even on the darkest of days, and he always brightened the room when he arrived.
Above all else, Mike loved his family. He was a mama's boy from the very beginning, and the best father to his three kids. When he first married into Imelda's family, his family grew quickly, for he considered each member of her family part of his own. Trips back to Virginia were always welcomed and filled with visits to extended family members. Just as Mike loved, he was loved in return.
A service of love and remembrance will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to service.
In addition to his parents, Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Imelda Martinez Kerns; three children, Jasmine Martinez Kerns, Michael James Kerns, and Juliana Kerns; aunts, Vanessa Boies and Bonnie Alviar; mother- and father-in-law, Margarita Ramos Chavez and Alredo Martinez Martin; as well as a host of cousins and extended family.
Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Della Crawford of Front Royal, Virginia.
