Mike Rawie Obituary
Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Michael "Mike" Ernest Rawie, 89, of O'Fallon, IL, passed away on October 12, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.
Mike was born to Carl Daniel and Vera Estelle Rawie (nee Harriman) on September 16, 1936, at Ft. Washakie, Wyoming.
Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 1, 1955, in Aberdeen, SD. In the USAF, he received electronics training on various guidance systems for Tactical and Strategic Guided Missiles subsequently assigned to various bases in Colorado, Texas, Montana, Germany and Okinawa.
Mike was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the USAF on November 1, 1971, through Officers Training School (OTS) at Lackland AFT, San Antonio, TX. He served in several assignments in Financial Management at Air Force bases in Delaware, Turkey, Germany and Illinois prior to his final assignment at HQ Military Airlift Command. He retired October1, 1993 after serving his country with honor and distinction for 38 years and 8 months.
Following his retirement, Mike worked as a Real Estate Agent with STRANO and Associates in O'Fallon for 12 years until his knees told him to slow down. He retired again in 2008; had knee replacement surgery. Once recuperated, he was then able to pursue his new hobby of playing poker at various casinos throughout the US. He also enjoyed his fishing trips to Alaska and Canada.
Mike was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Janet Ann Rawie (nee Paul); parents, Carl and Vera Rawie (nee Harriman) of Alsea, OR; and sister, Rita May Fillos of Wilmington, DE.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Michelle A. Rawie of O'Fallon, IL; his son, Michael P. Rawie of O'Fallon, IL; brothers, Carl W. (Carolyn) Rawie of San Antonio, TX, Gary R. (Dorothy) Rawie of Aiken, SC; sisters, Nancy Kendall of Tacoma, WA, Judith Haynes of Pine River, MN; his grandchildren, Clarke and Alexis Rawie; as well as his friend and travel companion, Vickie Mangum.
His cremains along with those of his wife are to be interned at Jefferson National Memorial, St. Louis MO.
