Carol Cheatham Obituary

Carol Ann Cheatham (nee Sutter), 89, of O'Fallon, IL, born on October 5, 1936, in Kansas City, KS, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.

A lot of words can be used to describe Carol's sweet personality but one that came up most often was her acts of charity. Throughout her life, Carol volunteered and worked with many services to help others. Before marrying her husband, Jack Cheatham, on July 5, 1976, the pair and their children moved to the island of Guam for Jack's career. While there, she and her daughter, Cindy, volunteered to help with "Operation Babylift", which rewarded them both an award from the base commander. Both in Guam and at Scott Air Force Base, Carol worked with family services, helping military families get settled in. Volunteering with the military was not all that she did. As a breast cancer survivor, Carol started a cancer support group along with being one of the original members of "Yesterday's Kids" at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church.

At home, Carol was an avid reader and gardener, very proud and particular about her plants and flowers in her yard. Her children describe her as meticulous when it came to her yard and house upkeep. Not only that, but Carol loved to decorate the house, especially for Christmas. In her downtime, she loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals, playing crosswords, and enjoying any kind of chocolate cookies and candies. Above all, Carol was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, and even great-grandmother. She will be missed dearly.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony F. and Mable I. Sutter (nee Tucker); loving husband, John "Jack" W. Cheatham; brother, Fred Sutter; and son, Anthony Yurkovich.

Carol is survived by her two children, Cynthia (David) Frost, Tim (Aimee) Yurkovich; two brothers, Tom (Merry) Sutter, Bob (Cheryl) Sutter; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sutter; four grandchildren, Meaghan Krukemeier, Thomas Frost, Kaitlyn Yurkovich, Michael Yurkovich; two great-grandchildren, Camden Krukemeier, and Andria Krukemeier; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made out to the Susan G. Komen Organization; www.komen.org, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; www.stjude.org/donate.

Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.
