Mike Andrew Sterling, 54, of Washington, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 2, 2026. He was born on November 6, 1971, in Charleroi, a son to Leona H. Hummell and the late Edward L. Sterling. Mike graduated in 1990 from Ringgold High School. He went on to be the owner of his own company: Sterling Construction, specializing in garage doors and openers. In his free time, Mike enjoyed watching sports, but his true passions in life were his kids and his grandkids. On September 1, 1990 in Eighty-Four, he married the love of his life, Kimberly Thompson, who survives. Mike was an extremely devoted husband, father, PawPaw and friend. He was always happiest when he was surrounded by his family. In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by a son, Brandon (Kim) Sterling of Canonsburg; a daughter, Alyvia (Michael) Clise of Harmony; grandchildren: Shane, Caleb, and one on the way Clise; and Trent and Cole Sterling; two brothers, Dale (Rhonda) Sterling of Mason, Ohio and Scott (Sherry) Sterling of Fredericktown; two sisters, Nancy (John) Weller of Claysville and Amy Sterling of Eighty-Four; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5; and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of the services, Friday, March 6, with Pastor Dan Owen officiating, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. My deepest condolences to Mrs Sterling and her family, I knew Mike for over 30 years, he installed garage doors for me on my projects as well as all of my family´s homes, He was the best in every aspect of life, always respectful, upbeat, and a all around good guy, He was my friend and I will miss him, Bobby Mikulski.

My husband Dave fisher works for 84 lumber. Mike did a lot for him. He cane a couple weeks ago to fix my garage again. The nicest guy So sorry for you´re loss.

Kim, Brandon and Olivia,

Our deepest condolences to you, we are so sorry for your loss. Mike was just an all around great guy. We were fortunate enough to get to know Mike and the family through our years in Thomas Baseball and Softball. What great memories we have of those days! Mike was a favorite coach of the players, always smiling and encouraging each player to do their best and have fun doing it!

Our family was just talking about Mike and his mullet hairstyle last weekend and how the haircut is back in style, he really rocked that hairstyle! He also would always quickly come to our rescue to service our garage door and most importantly when Jackie backed into the garage when exiting the garage! (Sure... the door was up when you starting backing, LOL) He got a kick out of that! He sure saved the day and was able to fix the door so we did not have to buy a new door, he was the man!

Mike will be missed by so many. Wishing you peace as you remember all the beautiful memories you shared. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

To the Sterling Family,

Thinking back to those times with Thomas baseball, Mike (Mr. Sterling) helped shape me into the man I am today. He was never negative, always encouraging, and just an all around great human. He wasn´t just a coach, he was a mentor and a friend. May he find peace and his forever ball field.
