Mikki Jo Hunter-Smith, 61, of Washington Court House, passed away September 8, 2025, at the OSU Medical Center following ongoing health concerns.

Mikki was born on October 16, 1963, in Washington Court House to Jerry Willard McCoy and Barbara Jean Kimball McCoy. Mikki was the youngest of four girls who loved spending time with family. She was always sports-minded and spent many days of her childhood playing softball and football in the back horse pastures with her older sisters’ friends, swimming at the city pool, and ice skating on local ponds and creeks. Mikki graduated from Washington Senior High School in 1982. Throughout her school years she was a true-Blue Lion. She was a cheerleader and high school softball player and served as her class secretary. She excelled at team sports and continued to play long after high school - including softball, volleyball, bowling, and golf. She was a huge Buckeye fan and never missed an Ohio State football game if she could help it.

Mikki began her professional banking career at Household Bank soon after high school as a bank teller. She eventually moved to the local 5/3 banking center where she worked her way to Vice President and Financial Center Manager before her retirement. There, she devoted 30 years, earning many business achievements along the way. This also led her to become involved with local community organizations. Following retirement, Mikki worked as a local real estate agent.

Mikki was a long-standing member of the local Rotary Club, where she served as president from 2000-2001. She served on several local governing and advisory boards, including Community Action Commission Board of Directors, Business Education Advisory Counsel, Area 7 Workforce Policy Board, Fayette County P-16 Counsel, WCH Revolving Loan Fund, Fayette County Youth Counsel, Fayette Regional Humane Society, Free Clinic of Fayette County, Citizens for a Safe and Prosperous Tomorrow, the Cancer Support and Research Foundation, Fayette County Jr. Achievement, Adena Community Counsel, and was a member and served as Vice President of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.

She was a doer and natural leader who had a heart for community projects. She served as a volunteer in many distinct roles, including coaching K-12 travel ball, managing the Gus Macker Tournament, hosting foreign exchange students, assisting in maintaining the Octa ballfields, making lemon shake-ups at Rotary functions, and supporting our local 4-H organizations in many different capacities.

She was an unabashed animal lover and advocate for them, which led her to volunteer at our local dog shelter, finding forever homes for over fifty dogs. She was instrumental, along with her two daughters, in founding our local dog park, which has been a huge benefit to other local dog lovers.

Mikki relished time with family and especially being a grandma. Spoiling her grandkids was her greatest joy (as in horses for Christmas). She enjoyed and always looked forward to spending time with her special group of friends from high school (her YaYas). In her spare time, she enjoyed trips to the lake, a casual game of cards, reading a good book, and traveling. In June she fulfilled one of her bucket list items when she and George took a cruise to Alaska, experiencing all the beautiful scenery along the way.

Mikki is survived by her husband of 25 years, George; twin daughters Caitie (Cory) Huffman and Jessie (Adam) Baldwin; stepdaughters Erin Smith and Emily (Spencer) Bradley; grandchildren, Reese and Kip Huffman, Claire and Jedd Baldwin, and Carmen Bradley; her father, Jerry Willard McCoy; sisters Kim McCoy (Duke Willis) and Toni (Terry) Miller; stepsisters Luanne (Jack) Penwell and Jackie Myers (Mike Johnson); stepbrother Michael Smith; sisters-in-law Linda (Barry) Badertscher and Deborah Kelley; brothers-in-law Steven (Julie) Smith, Thomas (Patrica) Smith, Timothy (Shawna) Smith, and Robert Mark (Gemma) Smith; uncles Gary (Donna) Kimball and Tom McCoy; aunts Janet Kimball and Mary Cox; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, many cherished friends, including her beloved YaYas (Teresa, Kelly E, Kelly R, Beth, Jenny, Chrystle, Sheletta, Dawn, Kelli, Dinah, Christa) and very special friends Audrey Steiger and Donna McCray.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Jean Wilson, and stepfather Tommy Wilson; stepmother Carolyn Sue McCoy; mother-in-law Mary Ellen Smith; a sister, Jeri McCoy; and uncles, David “Sonny” Kimball and Norman Kimball.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 4pm at the Pine Lodge, 1654 Flakes Ford Rd, WCH, OH. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2pm until the start of the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Roberts Funeral Home in Washington Court House. Donations in her memory are suggested to the Fayette County Dog Shelter at 1550 Robinson Rd., WCH, OH or our local Rotary Club via Union Savings Bank at 1050 Washington Ave., WCH, OH.
