Milbrey Zabokrtsky Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Funeral Home, Crematory, & Monument - Grinnell on Dec. 24, 2025.
Milbrey Darlene Zabokrtsky, 73, of Grinnell, IA was welcomed home to Heaven in Jesus's loving arms on December 20, 2025, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, IA.
Memorials may be made payable to Jami Osburn, mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Milbrey was born on March 10, 1952, to Charlie Lewis and Milbrey Ethel (Baskin) Cooley in Meridian, Mississippi. Her family then moved to Texas, and she grew up in the Fort Worth area.
Milbrey worked many jobs through the years, but she enjoyed working at the casino as a housekeeper the most.
She will be remembered for being the most giving and selfless person, and her love for her children and grandchildren. She and her daughter Jami were inseparable. They did everything together and lived together her whole life. She helped raise Jami's children and shared a deep bond with them like a second mom. Her faith was very important to her, and she enjoyed listening to Pastor Bob Joyce's sermons. She liked to play the slot machines at the casino, watching the tv show, Roseanne, and catching up on political events on her computer.
Milbrey is survived by her children, Joe Alday, Deborah Alday, Michael (Amanda) Flater, and Jami (Brian) Osburn, her grandchildren, Brian, Brice, Brianna, Brandon, Angela, Bree, Addison, Alex, Bradley, Sarra, Faith, Preston, Noah, Mason, Ashton, and Greyston, her siblings, Carol Smith, Ann Spinler, Marty Cooley, and Donald Cooley.
She is preceded by her parents, Charlie and Milbrey, her brothers, Roger, Mike, and former husband, Gary Zabokrtsky.
