Mildred Linda Brown Bark, 82, Lawrence passed away March 16, 2026, at Bridge Haven in Lawrence.
Mildred was born August 21, 1943, in Oklahoma the daughter of Jeff and Wanee (McLemore) Brown. Mildred went to Haskell Indian Nations University during it's time as a boarding school and graduated with a high school diploma from there.
She married Thomas Bark and they later divorced. She met Walter John Conroy after her Divorce with Tom Bark and entered into a long term relationship with him. The two opted to not marry but still loved each other dearly.
She worked as a housekeeper for the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence. During the time she worked as a housekeeper she adopted her grandson Joseph Kendall Bark after health and legal matters troubled her son and his wife. Mildred and John worked together to raise her grandson. Her grandson went on to care for her in return when her health started to decline after he grew up.
Survivors include a grandson, Joseph Kendall Bark of Lawrence, her Housemate of 51 years Walter John Conroy of Lawrence, and her two beloved cats.
No formal services are planned at this time.
The family suggests memorial contributions to either the Haskell Foundation or Kansas State's College of Veterinary Medicine and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
