SHELBY: Mildred Gahlena Carpenter, a beloved resident of Cleveland County, North Carolina, completed her earthly journey on the 21st of August, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on the 17th of October, 1930, in Cleveland County, she lived a life rich with love and dedication to her family, faith, and community.

Mildred was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where she actively participated in church activities and forged lasting bonds within the congregation. Her deep faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. As an animal lover, she found joy and companionship in the creatures she cherished.

Her family was the core of her existence, and she was often described as the glue that held them together. Working until the age of 70, Mildred demonstrated resilience and a strong work ethic, which she instilled in her children and grandchildren. Her unwavering love and support were constants in the lives of her loved ones.

Preceded in death by her parents, Allie Martin Sr. and Lola Brooks, as well as her siblings, Maliure Tesseneer, Ila Williams, William Andy Martin, Allie Martin Jr., and Maurice Martin, Mildred now joins them in eternal peace.

She is survived by her two sons, Donald Clary (Lois) and Mark Clary (Kathy), and her daughter, Marie Ballard. She also leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Shane Clary (Susan), Brad Clary (Laurie), Jason Ballard (Laura), Emily Boheler (Jimmy), and John Clary, as well as seven cherished great-grandchildren. A special niece, Faye Craft (Phil), holds dear memories of their close bond.

A memorial service to honor Mildred's life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC, on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service, providing an opportunity to share fond memories and celebrate her remarkable life.

In remembering Mildred Gahlena Carpenter, we celebrate a life marked by deep faith, unconditional love, and a steadfast commitment to her family and community. Her spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
