Mildred Iva Giffin, 99, of Indianapolis, peacefully passed away on September 15, 2025. She was born in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas on February 9, 1926 to the late Ward Hunt and Anetta "Nettie" (Wood) Hunt. As a young woman, she enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served her country during World War II. During her time in the military, she met James E. Giffin, whom later became her husband. Millie was a member of the West Newton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and reading in her spare time. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Giffin; brother, Herbert Hunt; sisters, Ruth Hunt Taylor, Faith Hunt Reed, Cuba Hunt Siler, Pauline Hunt Naylor and Thelma Hunt Deal; daughters-in-law, Jackie Giffin and Debbie Giffin. A Memorial luncheon be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at West Newton United Methodist Church (6843 Mendenhall Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46221) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. in the Fellowship Room. Survivors include her sons, Dannie and Jimmie Giffin; daughter, Cheryl (Bob) Bookout; 7 grandchildren, Stacey Campbell-Sweeting, Timothy Campbell, Pennie Calder, Jimmie Giffin, Jerrie Giffin, Jeff Worley and Laura Giffin; several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
