EAST BRUNSWICK-Mildred Goodwin passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at her residence in East Brunswick in the presence of her loving children.
Born in New York, she resided in the Bronx until the passing of her mother at the tender age of five when her beloved father Meyer Lieberman sought the assistance of his late wife's sister and husband, Betty and Samuel Prussack. Mildred went on to live with her loving aunt and uncle until she married Louis Goodwin in June 1948.
Her father and his loving wife Rose, along with her aunt and uncle, remained involved in Mildred's life throughout.
Mildred ultimately moved to Jersey City with her husband and two children, where she resumed her education and obtained both an undergraduate and master's degree from Jersey City State College. Mildred embarked on her career in education as a high school English teacher, and thereafter as a professor at Jersey City State College from 1969 to 1995.
In 1988, Mildred and her husband moved to Monroe Township, New Jersey where they lived for nearly 30 years. They became active members of their community, and devoted much of their retirement years to numerous organizations. Mildred joined and became a president of the Brandeis Society; was active in The Concordian, the local newspaper; hosted a local television show featuring her passion for film and sharing her encyclopedic knowledge of twentieth century film history with her audience. As an active member of the Astronomy Club, she and her husband hosted numerous luminaries in the world of astronomy.
In her career, Mildred taught hundreds of high school and college students, many of whom kept in contact with her after her retirement. She was the voice of the Hudson County Spelling Bee for many years, and the debate coach for Snyder High School. Early on in her teaching career, she was a resource teacher for Head Start, and supervised student teachers. Mildred enjoyed travel and broadening her knowledge of European, especially British history. She was an avid reader of literature from Shakespeare to contemporary novels.
Mildred is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, her parents, her Aunt and Uncle Betty and Sam Prussack, her brother, Morton Lane, and her beloved sister, Zenita Lane.
Surviving are her son, Robert Goodwin and his wife, Kathleen Randall; her daughter, Barbara Goodwin and her beloved companion, Marc Wohl; her grandchildren, Naomi, Ronen, Daniel, Evan, William, Emily, as well as her great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Emmanuel, and Jordana.
