Mildred P. Poisel Hanselman, age 94, formerly of rural Attica (Independence), passed away at 7:35 PM Sunday, October 19, 2025 in Sugar Grove Assisted Living in Plainfield. She was born June 9, 1931 daughter of the late Milford and Mary Gladys Ray Poisel. She married Russell Franklin Hanselman in the Rossville, IN United Methodist Church November 4, 1950 and he preceded her in death May 1, 1987.

Mildred was a 1949 graduate of Jackson Heights High School and worked in Lafayette for Public Service Indiana and previously Radio Materials Corp in Attica. She was a member of OES #129 in West Lebanon and was a Girl Scout Assistant Leader. She was trained in occupational therapy The Danville Veterans Administration Hospital to help care for her husband and father.

Genealogy was a passion for Mildred, she was well read and knew local history as well as her family history. She authored two books, Jackson Heights School and West Point High School. She enjoyed attending yard and garage sales. Mildred was an accomplished baker and often decorated cakes for weddings and special occasions.

Surviving are: two daughters; Marla Kay (James) Borders of rural Attica and Karen Sue Southard (Steve McWilliams) of Hazelwood, IN, four grandsons; Joseph, Andrew, Russell and Matthew. Seven great-grandchildren; Austin, Daniel, William, Kaleb, Allysa, Annabelle and Adam. Preceding her in death were, her parents, husband Russell, daughter Barbara Ann, sisters; Velma Marie Shultz Mallernee, Viola North and grandson Robert.

Visitation hours are Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM with Eastern Star services at 12:45, followed by funeral services at 1:00 PM with Kevin Howey officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Cemetery. Visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or share a memory.
