Mildred ("Millie") Cochran Talbot Redon was born October 18, 1925 in
Cleveland, OH, to the late Rev. Arenzia R. Cochran and Fannie Hutchins Cochran. She attended Lafayette Elementary School where she was the Champion Speller in the Cleveland Press Annual Contest, and believe it or not, she also played drums in the school band/orchestra. She graduated from John Adams High School and went on to attend Wilberforce University. She had warm memories of her time there and her sisterhood with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Mildred graduated cum laude in 1947 with a Bachelor of Education degree. Later that year she started to teach in the Cleveland School District until she joined the Shaker Heights School District in 1963, where she continued her successful career until retirement in 1985. During that time, she also completed a Master of Education degree in 1970, as well as earning the designation of a Martha Holden Jennings Master Teacher.
Mildred married Alvin C. Talbot in 1947 and from their 35 year union were born daughters Cheryl Lynn and Karen Suzanne. After a ten-year widowhood, she married Leonard E. Redon in 1992. They were happily married until his death in 2004.
Mildred had many interests, but was known primarily for her love of travel. As a child, she was a dreamer, and she was able to fulfill her spirit of adventure later in life by her extensive travels. Mildred eventually visited Europe (several times), Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, the Holy Lands, Egypt, Africa, Russia, China, India, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. She was also able to visit Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, Panama, and take a South American cruise to observe Halley's Comet in 1985.
A member of many organizations, Millie especially enjoyed her activities with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Shaker Heights School Retiree Association. She was also a Board Member and Life Trustee of the Eliza Bryant Village and a member in the Auxiliary III.
Mildred was a very active member of her father's congregation, the Glenville Church of God in
Cleveland, OH and later faithfully attended the United Methodist Church of the Saviour in Cleveland Heights, OH.
As a friend to many, Millie touched lives and hearts. She remained a loyal wife, daughter, mother and aunt.
The memory of the jewel of her life never ends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Steele, her sister Doris Cochran Phillips and brother Raymond A. Cochran. She leaves to celebrate her life of rich legacy and fond memories: daughter Karen Suzanne Talbot; sister Janis Cochran Turner (Lonnie); daughter-in-law Denise Redon; niece Africa Turner; nephews James Phillips, Jr., Jeffrey Phillips, Steven Phillips, Arthur Dale Grant, Jr. (Angela), Jerry Anthony, Alvin Anthony, Gary Talbot; great-nieces Aura Turner, Alecia Quettan (Marcel); great-nephew Arthur Dale Grant, III (Trey); and a host of cousins, loving relatives and friends.
Lovingly Submitted, The Family
