Mildred Ann "Milly" Sundell (née Bruckner) went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2025.
Milly was born in Detroit on July 24, 1933 and grew up on the same block as many of her aunts, uncles and cousins. Some of her fondest memories were of playing with her many cousins during those early years.
When Milly was 10 years old, her family moved to Royal Oak, where she attended St. Mary's.
She met and married Henry Sundell and had four daughters, whom they raised on Elizabeth Street in Rochester. Milly volunteered at the girls' school, led their Brownie troops, and worked the polls every election. Once the girls were in school, Milly began working at Michigan Bell, like her mother. She eventually became a supervisor in the repair department. Milly settled in Royal Oak after her divorce from Henry.
After retiring from the telephone company, Milly continued to be involved in volunteering, especially at her parish, Guardian Angels in Clawson. She led the Altar Society, was a Eucharistic minister, a lector, and also loved reading to the kindergarten kids for many years. She became a Dominican Associate and worked with the Dominican nuns in Oxford to spread the word of peace. Milly traveled to Medjugorje numerous times and found solace in her pilgrimages.
Milly was a devoted grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Many family parties and celebrations over the years leave the family with cherished memories of the "good times."
Milly was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions. She was very excited about the Lions this year. During baseball season, she could be found yelling at the TV, complaining about pitching changes.
Milly is survived by her daughters Christine (Bill) Easterday, Colleen (Bob) Truesdell, Cathy Holton, and Carole Rajan. Her grandchildren Shannon (Drew) Baker, BJ (Mandy) Easterday, Michael (Annie) Truesdell, Amy (Tony) Chmielinski, Andrew Holt, Paul (Amanda) Easterday, Kevin Holt, Christopher (Jackie) Rajan, Jennie (Tom) Howell, Melissa Jevons also survive, as well as 14 great-grandchildren, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Milly was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Margaret Bruckner, brothers Anthony "Tony" and Ronald Bruckner, sister Margaret "Peggy" Skalsky, sister-in-law Shirley Bruckner, brother-in-law Gene Skalsky and son-in-law Lonnie Holton.
Visitation will be held at Gramer Funeral Home at 705 N. Main St., Clawson, Michigan 48017 on Thursday, January 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A private family viewing will be held an hour before. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 24 at 10:30 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church at 581 E. 14 Mile Rd., Clawson, MI 48017, with viewing at 10:00 at the church.
Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre at a later date.
