Mildred E. Wintersmith was born September 18, 1930, in Fulton County Georgia, the only child of the late John and Estelle Stewart. As a young adult she attended Spelman college majoring in English Literature. Using her degree, she taught elementary school before meeting the love of her life. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Payne Wintersmith.
Mildred was a devoted wife and mother. Memories of her hosting parties and helping with neighborhood events bring smiles to those that knew and loved her. She loved to laugh and was quick to share a good joke but not as much as Jim. Reading was her passion, and romance novels were a favorite way to entertain herself in down time waiting for her children to return from school. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement where she served with Jim and a member of the Charmettes Social club for a time.
Mildred as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered eternal rest on March 8, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory; her son, Ronald F. Wintersmith (Pauline); daughter, Shirley E. Thomas, both of Atlanta GA; seven grandchildren Ronald Jr., Kristin, Kyle, Joya, Justin, Mascotcha, and Oliva; five great grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.
