Milton Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olmstead Funeral Home - Heber Springs on Aug. 9, 2024.
Milton David Miller, age 78, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away August 7, 2024 surrounded by his family. David was born April 7, 1946, in Stringer, Mississippi. He was the son of Jesse Miller and Bertha Mae (Lofton) Miller.
David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, especially at the farm. David was married to his loving and devoted wife Glenda for 55 years. He was a magnificent father to their son Josh and the two shared a remarkable bond. He loved his grandson Malachi and greatly enjoyed watching him play sports. He said the years spent watching Malachi play were some of the best years of his life.
David, the self-proclaimed Country Preacher at Large, was a devoted and dedicated preacher of the Gospel for 60 years. A member of the Tumbling Shoals Baptist Church, he always enjoyed worshipping in his home church with his family and friends. He traveled the country, from coast to coast, expounding the Scriptures in innumerable churches, countless conferences and many conventions. During the last 25 years or so of his ministry, he became burdened about raising up a new generation of preachers who would be able to teach the Bible word-for-word and not rely on the watered-down prosperity gospel that seems to be prevalent today. David proudly served on the Board of Trustees at Southern Baptist College (now Williams Baptist College), as well as on the Board of Trustees at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
David was an avid deer hunter who loved sharing deer camps with friends and family. His goal each year was to kill a bigger buck than his son Josh, and most years he succeeded. He loved to sit all day on his deer stand and read his Bible. Working on projects at the farm was always a favorite pastime. He often said just being in God's creation always did him well.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Miller, his parents, and his brother, J.B. Miller.
He is survived by his son Josh Miller and grandson Malachi Miller (Savannah) of Heber Springs. He is also survived by his sisters Betty Allen of Mobile, Alabama and Elaine Sellers of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and his two brothers Joe Miller of Virginia and Jim Miller of Tennessee. David leaves behind many nieces and nephews, other relatives and countless friends.
Services will be held on Monday, August 12th at 2 p.m. at the Heber Springs Community Center, 201 Bobbie Jean Lane, with Dr. Hersheal York officiating. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in memory of Brother David Miller be made to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2825 Lexington Road, Louiseville, KY 40280.

Our church just ran his video Country Preacher at Large. To say my soul was touched is an understatement. I'm thankful for this man, whom I've never met and passed away before I even knew he existed. May his story touch others and live forever more. God Bless his family.

Brother David Miller was an inspiration and straight shooter when it came to preaching God´s word faithfully. I met him while pastoring my first church twenty-two years ago. He was preaching a series of revival messages at Red River Baptist Church in Adams TN. He invited my wife and I to come to one of his preaching schools in Heber Springs, which was led by Bro. David and Herschel York. At the end of our time there, he gave each pastor a generous library of books. I will always be grateful for servants like David Miller who poured out his life as a sweet offering to faithfully proclaim God´s word while looking for opportunities to invest in the next generation of pastors. I believe he will have many crowns to cast at our Saviors feet.

During my first pastorate in the early 80s, Bro. David was the Camp Director at Spring Lake Camp for several years. I looked forward to taking our kids every summer!
I will always be grateful for David's faithfulness to the Lord and His Word, and for mentoring so many, even from afar... Though not having a conversation with him for many years, it has been a joy to see how the Lord has used him as a choice instrument in being the "Country Preacher at Large"!
