Mimi Wilson, born Mildred Jane Brown on August 25, 1934, in Kearney, Nebraska, daughter of the late Helyn and Robert Brown, passed away on August 22, 2025. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by family, and pursued her education at the University of Missouri, where she earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Music Education. Later, she continued her studies at USC, completing a second Master's degree in the Arts. Mimi valued education and carried this into her professional life as a teacher, while also supporting her husband, William (Bill) Wilson, as he advanced in his medical career.
Mimi and Bill built their life together across the country, living in New York, Texas, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, and California. Along the way, they raised five children-Susan, Chris, Nancy, Bill, and AliceAnn. She worked in schools, taught music, and contributed to her communities through service roles such as Girl Scout leader, PTA president, and church volunteer. Her life reflected a balance of family commitment and professional involvement in education and the arts.
In California, Mimi returned to her passion for theater. She co-founded the New Place Theater Company and later directed productions at the Norris Theater in Rolling Hills, including an annual "Christmas Carol" and the creation of the long-running "Shakespeare on the Meadow" series. In addition to her affinity for great stories and fine writing, Mimi had a deep love of family gatherings at the shore and a talent for growing hydrangeas and African violets. Later in life, she also became an accomplished painter, finding joy and expression in her artwork. Through her work in theater, her dedication to teaching, and her role as a mother and grandmother, Mimi leaves a lasting legacy that connects family, education, and the arts. Mimi is survived by her brother Robert, her five children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
