Obituary published on Legacy.com by Slay Memorial Funeral Center - Aubrey on Jul. 10, 2024.
Today we announce the passing of Mina Lois Jacobs. A cherished mother and loving sister, a poised administrator, and friend to all those lucky enough to have met her – the weight of her passing owes no account or wordy embellishment – but here, we try. She departed from this world on July 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, steadfast leadership, strength, and kindness.
Mina was born on September 27, 1949 to Archie and Nancy (Armer) Jacobs. Like her parents, Mina pursued a life of service; first as a devoted mother, and second to the betterment of human rehabilitation, and to the care of our elderly. As a mother, Mina showered her children with love and modeled a life of integrity, empathy, and independence. She created magic every Christmas in a way that only a mother can and, full of pride, she beamed in the glow of the candles she lit atop countless birthday cakes. She corrected and redirected her children with an equal love and kindness. She was a mother, despite herself, in a way that cannot be replicated.
She treasured her family and cherished every opportunity spent together- be it a holiday gathering, a family reunion, or weekend at the lake. The venue never mattered as much as the company. She showed her children, through her example, that a close-knit family was a blessing that cannot be replaced. The bond she shared with her own parents, her two loving brothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins, was unbreakable. She would do anything, within her power, and without regard for her own convenience, for all her family members.
Professionally, Mina excelled as a nursing home administrator, where her passion for caregiving shone brightly. Her commitment to improving the lives of elderly residents was unparalleled, and her leadership was marked by empathy, professionalism, and a tireless dedication to the professional development and betterment of her employees. Colleagues remember her as a pillar of strength and wisdom, a force that could not be reckoned, and a person ready to lend a listening ear or offer support. Mina was often called upon to help facilities that were struggling and, during the early part of her 52-year career, proudly served as President of the Texas Nursing Home Association.
Beyond her professional endeavors and role as a mother, Mina was also known for her warmth, generosity, and sense of humor. She was judgment free and welcomed individuals from all walks of life. She trapped those fortunate enough to spend any time with her – unknowingly and effortlessly – into lasting friendships wherever she went.
Mina was balanced. Despite her dedication to work she enjoyed fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an unashamed glutton for NCIS and watched every episode at least 200 times. And of course, she loved the slots, often firing off the usual quip at any sound that mimicked the bells and whistles of those brilliant machines - "I think the casino is calling me!"
Mina will be deeply missed by her children, Stephanie Smith and husband Jason, Alicia Anderson and husband Chad, Walter Ellison and wife Sharon, and Jeff Ray; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Nancy, Andrew, Chase, Ella, and Emily; brothers, Don Jacobs and wife Debbie, and Russ Jacobs and wife Alicia; many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Although she has left us, her spirit will forever live on in our hearts and memories.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00PM, Friday, July 12, 2024 at Slay Memorial Chapel located at 400 US-377,
Aubrey, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the
American Cancer Society.
As we bid farewell, we take comfort in the legacy of love and compassion she leaves behind, and in knowing that she has reunited with her parents and other loved ones who had gone before.
Rest in peace, Mom. You will forever be our guiding light.
