Miriam "Mim" (Seamon) Ewing, 89, of East Hampton CT and Port Charlotte FL, passed away peacefully on 11/19/2025 at home. She was the widow of the late John K. Ewing, who predeceased her in 2002. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and JoAnn Ewing of East Hampton CT, with whom she made her home. More importantly to her, she was "Gram" to her two grandchildren, Colleen Ewing of East Hampton CT, and Brian Ewing of Preston CT. She was predeceased by her daughter Deborah Ewing in 1983. She also leaves behind her sister Brenda Endicott and her partner Clyde Young of Freeport ME, her brother-in-law David "Donnie" Vale of South Windsor CT, her sister in-law Dawn Seamon of Buxton ME and Hernando Beach Fl, and her sister-in-law Sylvia Ewing of Youngsville NC, as well as many nieces and nephews she loved very much. She was predeceased by 9 of her siblings and their spouses. They include Arlene (Palmer) Brimigian, Erma (Joseph) Grimaldi, Eleanor (Fred) Adams, Orland "Bub"(Lois) Seamon, Alton "Babe" Seamon, Laura Weber, Althea(Richard) Hoisington, Alice Vale, Leon Seamon, and her brother-in-law James "Jim " Ewing. She was also predeceased by nieces Cheryl "Cherry " Deshaies, Julie Seamon, Alta Seamon, and nephews Kevin Adams and Lyle Seamon.
Miriam was born in Jay, Maine on Christmas Eve in 1935, always annoyed by the fact that growing up, she only received one present a year for Christmas AND her birthday. She was the 8th of 11 children born to her parents, the late Twining and Nettie Seamon. She cherished growing up in a large, close-knit family. Life on the "Farm" in Maine revolved around her sisters, brothers, and her many nieces and nephews, with the farmhouse being the gathering place for the family's activities.
After graduating from Jay High School, she moved to Connecticut, where she met John at a dance at the Polish National Home in Hartford CT. After their marriage in 1956, they lived in Wilson CT before moving into the home they built in New Hartford CT in 1962. There, they raised a family before retiring to Florida in 1996. For many years, she worked at Eddie's Luncheonette in Winsted CT, as well as becoming a licensed Real Estate Agent. She also had her own residential cleaning service for almost 15 years before her retirement. After her husband's passing in 2002, she continued to work on making the home they had recently built what they had planned on because, as she always said, she and John were a team, and she was going to finish what they had started to together. She loved her life in Florida. One of her favorite pastimes was watching her Monarch butterflies hatch in the garden she planted for this purpose. Her friend Claudia dubbed her the "Monarch Midwife." She entertained often and enjoyed visits with family and friends over the years during the winters in Florida. She stayed busy, becoming a classroom volunteer in a local elementary school. She and her best friend Hannah volunteered with Meals on Wheels for several years as well. Even after suffering a stroke in 2020 and moving in with her family in East Hampton, she continued to enjoy returning to her Florida home and seeing the friends she had made there.
Mim also became involved in The East Hampton Senior Center, where she was proud to volunteer with the meal program at the Center. An avid reader, she also belonged to the Book Club, even though she liked to pick out her own books, John Grisham being her favorite author. Special thanks go out to the staff at the East Hampton Senior Center, especially Kecia, Cindy, and Melissa. Mim's family would also like to thank the other participants at the East Hampton Senior Center who welcomed her to the Center openly and warmly.
Per her wishes, no formal services will be held, only a private remembrance with her immediate family. A celebration of her life will be held in Maine at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory can be made to the East Hampton Senior Center 105 Main Street East Hampton CT 06424.
