John Mitchel Osteen passed away on September 24, 2025, in Jack County, Texas. Mitchel was born on January 1, 1961, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Frank and Shirley Osteen. He was a 1979 graduate of Jacksboro High School. After high school, he worked for various oil and gas companies until he began work for the United States Postal Service. Mitchel married Lana (Phillips) Osteen on September 4, 1982. They had 2 children- Grayson and Chloe. While working as a clerk at the Post Office, he met everyone in the county and was a stranger to no one. He worked there for 20 years and retired in 2007 due to health. Mitchel grew up in the Squaw Mountain area, where he enjoyed riding dirt bikes, hunting, and fishing, some of his favorite hobbies. Mitchel enjoyed all sports, his favorites being tennis, football, and NASCAR. He enjoyed listening to all genres of music, with Pearl Jam being his favorite. One of his favorite pastimes was holding forth in his barn with refreshments, family, and friends. (IYKYK). He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Mike, nephew Tyler, and grandparents Maude Osteen, G.A., and Marjorie Jackson. He is survived by his wife Lana Osteen; daughter Chloe Osteen; son Grayson Osteen and wife Tiffany; grandchildren Jaxon, Rayden, Baylor, Kensington, and Kameryn; sister Melody McAnear and husband Kelly; brother Mark Osteen and wife Trena; and many nieces and nephews.
