Mitchell Ray Brown, affectionately known as "Mickey" to family and friends, lived a life full of purpose, love, and unwavering dedication. Born on August 19, 1955, to Annie Ruth Bowman Brown in Montezuma, Georgia, Mickey embraced every moment with passion and empathy.
On Saturday, February 22, 2025, Mickey's journey on this earth came to and unexpected close at Wellstar Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. While his passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him, his remarkable legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.
Mickey's early years in Montezuma shaped the man he would become – driven, intelligent, and always striving for excellence. He attended D.F. Douglass High School and was a 1973 graduate of Macon County High School, where he achieved the distinguished honor of class president, a testament to his dedication and brilliance. His academic journey continued at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Stella Downer. During his time at Paine College, he became a proud and dedicated member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., in 1976, embracing its principles of brotherhood, scholarship, and service throughout his life.
Mickey answered the call to serve his country with honor and distinction, embarking on a 20-year career in the United States Army. Through dedication and perseverance, he rose to the esteemed rank of Major, leaving a lasting impact on those he led and mentored.
After retiring from the military, Mickey continued to serve his community as a teacher at Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, where he taught for 18 years. His passion for education and his commitment to his students' growth made him a beloved figure in the school and a lasting influence on many young lives.
Beyond his professional and academic accomplishments, Mickey's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Stella and a loving father to Fabian of Atlanta and Kellye (Kegan) of Birmingham, Alabama. As "Papa", he adored his grandchildren, Savian and Sanai Brown, and eagerly anticipated the arrival of his future grandchild, Krue Mitchell Tarver.
Mickey was preceded in death by his mother Annie Ruth Bowman Brown and his oldest brother Edmond Brown. Mickey's warmth and wisdom extended beyond his immediate family. He shared a lifelong bond with his siblings: James of Canyon Lake, California, Lenoir of San Diego, California, Leroy and Tony of Perry, Georgia, Ann (Gerry) of Montezuma, Georgia, Walt (Earlene) Greene of Birmingham, Alabama, Jessie Greene of Spring, Texas, Fannie Greene of Montezuma, Georgia, and Terry Rogers of Warner Robins, Georgia.

I am saddened at the loss of Major Mitchell Brown. He was a professional soldier and educator who helped enrich the lives of the people he worked with and the students he taught. He was a very well respected educator with a big heart.
