Mitchell Chaney Obituary

Mitchell Wesley Chaney, 76, of Jacksonville, AL passed away on September 16, 2023 from cardiac complications. Mitchell (aka Mickey) was born in Jacksonville, AL on September 10, 1947. Mickey grew up in Jacksonville, AL and graduated from Jacksonville High School. After graduation, Mickey married Gail Loraine Carter in 1966. Mickey enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1988. During this time he honorably served in the Vietnam War. Mickey was a helicopter mechanic. After retiring from the Army, he moved to California and was a carpenter. He returned to Jacksonville, AL in 1997 where he lived his remaining years. Mickey could be summed up by his love for his boys, and his love of his country. During his lifetime, Mickey developed countless hobbies, one of them being working on and fixing cars. If he could get his hands on a set of tools, you could find him under the hood of a car. His peace was spending afternoons drinking coffee on his porch watching over his lake. In the 76 years that Mickey lived, he was so many things to so many people. Mickey truly had a heart of gold, always looking out for others. He loved giving advice, and was known for his dry sense of humor. He lived for the happiness of his boys and his grandchildren. Mickey is survived by his ex-wife of 32 years, Gail Chaney; his children; Jayson Chaney (wife- Sudan), Scott Chaney, Adam Chaney, Aaron Chaney (wife- Anna), Nickolas Chaney (wife- Allison), and the son he chose, Gary Ynostrosa, grandchildren; Karen, Brandon, Justin, Brittany, Lucian, Julian, Taylor, Miley, Brodie, Alyssa, Abigail, Izabella, Brenya, Aurora; and numerous family and friends. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is also survived by his siblings; Peggy Green, Myra Ishler, Bobby Chaney, Steve Chaney, and Rhonda Jensen; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Chaney Jr. and his mother, Addie Ruth Chaney. His boys will be celebrating his life by having a private family ceremony on the property that Mickey loved so much. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
