Mitchell Miller, age 72 of Owingsville, passed away on Sunday, February 11. He was born in Mount Sterling, Kentucky on November 16, 1951 to the late Arnold Miller and Eula Roberts Miller.
Mitchell Miller graduated from Bath Co. High School in 1969 and attended Morehead State University before returning to Owingsville to be a part of the business community through Miller Furniture and Appliance, Owingsville Farm Supply, and other business ventures over the past 50 years. He served on many community boards/committees including the Bath Co. Ambulance Board, the Bath Co. Sanitation Board, the Federal Preston Environmental Project, the development of the Preston Volunteer Fire Department and the Bath County Board of Education. Mitch was a voice of wisdom and integrity when it came to each of these endeavors. He was inducted into the Bath County Football Hall of Fame in 1996, was instrumental in the development of the Bath County Quarterback Club and was named Bath County Chamber of Commerce's "Citizen of the Year" in 2006 for his consistent support of Bath County Athletics (youth and high school levels), community projects and a variety of student groups/clubs including FFA and Beta. He was an Honorary Member of FFA.
As he moved into the later years of life and health became more of a challenge, Mitch became involved in a sport that he excelled in. Whatever he did, he did it well. Mitch was an All American Champion Trapshooter and his accomplishments were featured in Trap and Field Magazine. He was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors, loved to farm and felt content being at both his home in KY and in FL. He was a member of the Preston First Church of God.
We take pride, as his family, in knowing all that he accomplished in life as it relates to what he poured into the people around him. He will be remembered for many things: a smart businessman, a farmer, an excellent athlete, a community leader and the like, but for those of us who loved him best, as a husband, father, brother, son-in-law and friend, we will love him best for being real. Caring about people regardless of who they were or what they had. He was the true definition of a "good man" and a loyal friend. No fuss, just himself, and he could see straight to the heart of the matter. As a man, he embodied what it means to be a "survivor" with a "never quit attitude", who overcame tremendous health challenges to enjoy almost eight more years with those he loved best following a single lung transplant in 2016. He exceeded the projected number of survival years for most transplant patients and we will forever be grateful to the Transplant Team at Cleveland Clinic and the donor family who replaced what felt like impossible with more life.
Mitchell was married to "the love of his life" for 37 years, Cheryl and has 2 adult children, Mitchell Scott Miller and Michelle (Shelly)Miller Rogers (Jake), both of Owingsville, Ky. He has 4 grandchildren, Hayley Sanders Trusty (Scott), Wyatt Sanders (Ceanna), Lindsey Sanders and Olivia Sanders; 2 great grandsons, Jace and Luke Trusty and a host of other family members and friends who loved and supported him. Mitchell is the son of Arnold and Eula Miller and the brother of Carole Miller Tucker.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Richardson Funeral Home with Reverend Lowell Rice and Pastor Ulysses Walton officiating. Burial will follow in the Ginter Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ricky Wells, Robert Becker, Bobby Butcher, RT Tucker, Tristan Corbett, Scott Trusty, Wyatt Sanders and Scott Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Wells, Roger Tapp, Ted Bilbrey, Randy York, Muff Miller and Bobby Bilbrey.
