Mitchell Pincus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Edina on Jan. 3, 2026.
Pincus, Mitchell, M.D.

"Mickey"

Age 98, of Edina, MN, passed away on December 19, 2025. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Katherine "Tinka" and by his sister, Shirley. Survived by his loving children, Steven (Michelle Strangis) and Elizabeth; granddaughter, Alison (Gaurav Mokhasi); great-granddaughter, Vera Belle Mokhasi; sister-in-law, Nancy Morse; and many nieces and nephews.

Mickey was born on September 28, 1927, and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He was a physician who loved theater, sports, and family, and had an incredible passion for travel.

Mickey graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1945 at the age of 18 and earned his Master of Science degree three years later. During this time, Mickey also served in the United States Army and was awarded a World War II Victory Ribbon. He attended New York Medical College, achieving his M.D. degree in 1953. Mickey specialized in obstetrics and gynecology and practiced medicine in the Twin Cities for over 35 years. He was well known as a highly skilled and compassionate physician. Mickey was an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota, training many young doctors, and he volunteered at community clinics providing free health care to low-income women. Mickey said that he became an obstetrician so that he could participate in a joyful part of medicine - and he certainly did that, delivering many thousands of babies during his career.

Mickey and Tinka were wide-ranging and adventurous world travelers. They visited pretty much any place you could name, including such distant locales as Antarctica and repeat favorites such as India. Mickey and Tinka spent many delightful years wintering at Ocean Village in Fort Pierce, Florida - a place they truly loved. Mickey was an avid sports fan his entire life, from the Brooklyn Dodgers in his youth, to the Twins, Vikings, North Stars, and Gophers, and most of all Michigan (Go Blue!). Mickey and Tinka attended many memorable sporting events, including yearly visits to The Big House, Twins World Series games in 1965, 1987, and 1991, and crushing Vikings defeats. Mickey and Tinka were enthusiastic supporters of the Guthrie Theater, and season ticket holders from its inception. Their Guthrie Theater patron number was 79. Most of all, Mickey was a caring, kind, intelligent, and loyal person who brought joy to his family and his many good friends. He will be greatly missed.
