Our beloved mother and grandmother, Miyako K. Modisette, age 94, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 30 after a long battle with cancer.
Miyako was born September 25, 1930, in Kyoto, Japan where she trained to be a professional seamstress. As a young woman, she worked in her father's restaurant where she met and would soon marry Buddy Modisette, who was serving in the Korean War.
Miyako and Buddy loved traveling together and were genuinely best friends and each other's strongest support system for the entire 59 years of their marriage.
Miyako was a very creative person who painted amazing landscapes in acrylic or oil paint, sewed casual and formal clothes, costumes, and many other intricate patterns. She was an avid gardener with a beautiful Japanese garden. She enjoyed making Easter bunny cakes and pineapple upside down cakes for her granddaughter and teaching her how to cook Sukiyaki and make sushi.
Miyako was an incredibly loving mother and friend who enjoyed visiting and talking with and baking treats for her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father Otosan Okura and her husband Buddy Modisette. After her husband passed, she was loved and cared for by many wonderful friends and neighbors who routinely checked in on her.
She is survived by her son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Rebecca, and grand-daughter, Hannah.
We will greatly miss her unconditional love and her beautiful laughter.
