In Loving Memory of Stanley Perera

December 14, 1937 – September 17, 2025

Stanley Perera, 87, of Rensselaer, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on December 14, 1937, Stanley was the beloved son of the late Austin and Molly Perera. He was the eldest of six siblings, growing up with five younger brothers and one sister.

Stanley earned a Bachelor's degree and spent many years working as a meteorologist for the Government of Sri Lanka. After retiring, he immigrated to the United States to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Stanley was a man of many interests, including reading, electronics, woodworking, and crafting. One of his greatest joys was observing the night sky with his telescope-ever curious about the universe and the world around him.

He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Monica Perera, a loving father, and a cherished friend. Stanley will be remembered for his gentle nature, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his family. His kindness and humility left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Candida Perera, Placida Perera, and Stanley Perera; sons-in-law, Ranil DeSilva and Nirusha Dissanayake; and daughter-in-law, Sasika De Silva.

He was the proud grandfather of Seana Weerakoon and Oshane Dissanayake and Oshana Dissanayake

Stanley is also survived by his brother, Rufus Perera, and sisters-in-law Ann Perera, Trixie Perera and Rose Perera.

He was predeceased by his wife, Monica Perera, and his siblings Newton Perera, Bonifus Perera, Douglas Perera, and Silvia Perera.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a viewing on Tuesday, September 23, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, 163 Columbia Turnpike, Clinton Heights, Rensselaer, NY. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life and faith will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3rd Avenue Extension, Rensselaer, NY.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support received during this time of loss. Stanley's memory will remain a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
