Mohan Katta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMurrough Funeral Chapel - Libertyville on Mar. 5, 2026.
Mohan Nathaniel Katta, a man of steadfast faith, principle, and profound love for his family, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a pioneer for his family, a dedicated public servant, and a pillar of the Telugu Christian community.

Born in Vikarabad, Telangana, India, Mohan was the second son of Nathaniel and Karunamma Katta (née Devapriyam). After losing their mother at a young age, Mohan and his older brother Thomas were raised by their beloved maternal grandmother. Her love, dedication, and faith instilled the values of Christian life that he passed on to his children. His bond with his brother was unbreakable and, though thousands of miles apart throughout life, they remained close until Thomas' untimely death in 2005. While devastating, this seminal event deepened his faith in the Lord and reaffirmed his devotion to his family. This event later facilitated the sponsorship of his six siblings to the United States.

He completed his early schooling at Methodist Boys School, Hyderabad, and Mennonite Brethren Central High School, later earning his degree from Nizam College. After graduating, Mohan served on various official committees for the Centenary Methodist Church and began his professional life in the Accounts Department of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation.

He married his wife Lalitha on November 17, 1975 and together, they began their journey of purpose and faith. Once settled in America, he continued his career in public service, dedicating many years to the US Treasury Department before retirement in 2012.

In 1980, Mohan and his wife moved to Lake County, Illinois eventually settling in Libertyville. He was an active member of the Christian community in the Chicago area, supporting and worshipping at the Evangelical Free Church in Libertyville (now CrossLife) as well as the India Mission Telugu United Methodist Church in Oak Park.

Mohan was known for his quiet stability and meticulous nature. He approached every task with thoughtfulness, grace and care. He was an engaging conversationalist with a quick wit and a gentle humor that made everyone, from lifelong friends to strangers, feel welcomed and valued. Above all, Mohan placed family first. A guiding light to his children, he urged them to live honorable lives rooted in responsibility and integrity. Even in his final days, his resilience and testimony to God's faithfulness served as an inspiration to all who knew him.

Mohan is survived by Dr. Lalitha Parde, his devoted wife of fifty years; their children Solomon and Elizabeth; Elizabeth's husband Michael; his grandchildren Mayah, Saafiyah, Zarai, and Amani; his siblings Israel Katta, Christin Maddela, Mary Alle, and Emmanuel Katta and their families; and his wife's sister Premalatha and her husband Perumal Nathan.

Mohan is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and his brothers, Thomas Nathaniel Katta and Solomon Praveen Kumar Katta.

Visitation for Mohan will be from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on Saturday March 7th at CrossLife Evangelical Free Church, 431 West Austin Ave, Libertyville, IL 60048 with a service following at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Libertyville. Funeral info (847) 362-2626
