Mollie Ellen Haffey Caldwell passed away at her residence in Lexington, Miss. on October 25, 2024. She was born November 21, 1973 to the late Jimmy and Barbara Haffey of Ebenezer, Miss. Memorial services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko, Miss. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Mollie was an excellent student at Central Holmes Academy and graduated as a valedictorian from Holmes Community College in 2000. At Holmes, she was named a H.E.A.D.W.A.E recipient, a recipient of the W.Y. Sudduth Social Science Award and the Biological Science Award. She was also selected to participate in the annual Ken Wooten Scholars Bowl at Ole Miss. In her final semester at Holmes, Mollie was chosen as a recipient of the prestigious Massey Scholarship that funds a student who pursues a medical education in the field of their choice. She did pursue a degree in nursing but was unable to finish due to complications of a pregnancy. She also completed an EMT certification.
After working in the office at Fleetwood Homes in Lexington, Mollie chose to become a stay-at- home mom. She took great pleasure in helping with her children's school activities and attending their school programs.
Always popular and outgoing, Mollie had a reputation of being a kind, caring person who was fiercely loyal to those she cared about. She reveled in helping those in need and rooting for the underdog. She possessed a strong fighting spirit, including battling cancer for several years. She enjoyed spending time near the water, animals, and a good joke.
Mollie is survived by her daughter, Ariel Pittman Killebrew (Josh) and her son, Banning Caldwell; two grandsons, Benton and Cortland Killebrew; two brothers, Dr. Jim Haffey (Rae Anne) and Thomas Haffey (Rebecca); her aunts, Alice Anne Haffey Sisco (Earl), Helen Haffey Brock (Charlie), and Sally Ulery; her uncles, Tommy Haffey (Bonnie) and Christ Liebegott (Ginny), and eight nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Manor for the wonderful care they provided for Mollie and the hospice nurses, especially Lacey Bowman, for going over and above to see that Mollie received the best of care during her long illness.
Memorials may be made to the Autism Society of America.
