Monford Lee Begley

Monford L. Begley, 90, was born on October 12, 1934, in Pine Mountain, Kentucky, to Alfred and Nancy (Cornett) Begley. While living in Kentucky, Monford proudly served in the Army National Guard.
In 1955, he moved to Michigan, where he worked for various tree-trimming contractors before securing a position in the forestry division with Detroit Edison. Monford worked for DTE for 15 years and retired in 1997. During his time there, he also achieved a personal milestone by graduating from Airport Adult Education in 1995, earning his high school diploma. Monford enjoyed a full and active life. He loved fishing and hunting, and his favorite hobbies included crafting custom fishing poles and turkey callers. His greatest joy, however, came from sharing the outdoors with family and friends. Each year, he faithfully planted a large garden to provide for those around him. He was also an active member of the Ash Senior Citizens community.
On July 21, 1978, Monford married Betty Leonard at Carleton Baptist Church. Together, they built a blended family filled with love and memories.
Monford is survived by his sons, Manford Begley Jr. (Melissa) of Maybee, Michigan; Russell Begley of Monroe, Michigan; and Allen Begley of Carleton, Michigan. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Mark McLellen of Luzerne, Michigan; Scott McLellen of Charleston, South Carolina; Susan Hills (Mike) of Deerfield Beach, Florida; and Marsha Klecha of Monroe, Michigan. In addition, Monford is survived by his sister, Nancy Hensley of Lee Junior, Kentucky, as well as many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Begley; brothers, McKinley Begley and Earl Begley; sister, Nokomis Bratcher; and grandson, Jacob Begley. Monford will be remembered for his hard work, love of the outdoors, devotion to family, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Bobcean Funeral Home, Carleton Chapel on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Bobcean Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 11:00 am. Rev. Austin Begley will officiate the service. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Huron Township, Michigan.
