Monte Schellenberger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home on Mar. 14, 2026.
Monte Lee (née Marugg) Schellenberger, 58, of Brooksville, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Thursday, March 12, 2026. She leaves behind her husband of 30 years, Daniel Steven Schellenberger.

Monte was born on March 18, 1967, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to her parents, the late Richard H. and Wilma L. (née Lewis) Marugg. A homemaker, she devoted her life to homeschooling her children and lovingly caring for her son with special needs. Earlier in life, she spent some time studying abroad in Rome, Italy. In addition to caring for her family, she was a devoted member of St. James Parish in Brooksville, Kentucky, assisting with CCD and Eucharistic Adoration. She was also a member of the Countryside Homemakers, the Bracken County Quilters, and was a past member of the Bracken County Library Board. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, and watching and laughing at the TV Show, "Mountain Monsters."

Surviving her, in addition to her husband, are her beloved children, Caleb Schellenberger, Joshua Schellenberger, Elizabeth Rouse (Joseph), Catherine Schellenberger, Emily Schellenberger, and Jane-Marie Schellenberger; her sister, Tracy Dyer (Mike); her sisters-in-law, Milissa Marlar (Curtis), and Karen Schellenberger; and seven nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stillborn child, Flannery Schellenberger.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at St. James Church in Brooksville by Rev. Joseph Shelton.

Interment will follow in the St. James Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, also on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested in the form of Mass intentions to be offered at either St. James or St. Augustine Church, 215 E. 4th Street, Augusta, KY 41002.
