Stephen Paul Schellenberger, 72, was born on Saturday, January 17, 1953, in San Gabriel, California, to Ralph Karland Betty Elaine (Wolfer) Schellenberger.
Surrounded by the people who loved him most, Steve peacefully left this world for his permanent home in heaven after a brief battle with Leukemia on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County.
.
Steve packed a lot into his years. He followed his dream of flying, earning his pilot's license in 1978, and even owning his Super Cub. He kept his skills sharp, renewing his Certified Instrument Instructor credentials regularly-the most recent just days before he passed.
For almost 30 years, Steve was a dedicated employee at Rocky Mountain Power, and he would've kept working if he could. When he wasn't at work, you could find him outdoors, hunting, or tackling a new project around the house-never one to sit still for long.
Steve's childhood was an adventure, thanks to his parents' missionary work in Ecuador and Peru. Growing up with five siblings, he spent much of his early life exploring and making memories. His sister tells a story: one night, out on a small boat, Steve helped her catch her first Caiman, pulling it into the boat like a true expert and making her feel like the luckiest sister ever.
Faith was at the center of Steve's life. He loved the Lord deeply and wasn't shy about sharing his beliefs or helping others, no matter what anyone thought. His generosity and willingness to lend a hand were felt by many. Steve also had a real love for music, pouring his heart into his church by leading the choir and organizing music for services as long as he was able.
Steve leaves behind a wonderful legacy and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Glenda; his children, Sharon (Drew) Olson, Anna (David) Reed, Andrew (Rachel) Schellenberger, Peter (Stephanie) Schellenberger, Caleb (Jessica) Schellenberger, and Joshua Schellenberger; and his 16 grandchildren, Lexi and Aubree Olson; Colton, Brystol, Easton, and Falynn Reed; Clancy and Avery Schellenberger; Logan, Wil, Leland, Dean, and Brigitte Schellenberger; Brantley, Brayden, and Paisley Schellenberger. He is also survived by his siblings Becky, Esther, Rachael Miriam, and Dave.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Timothy; his daughter, Sara Schellenberger; and his son, Adam Schellenberger.
Steve's kindness, faith, and zest for life touched everyone he met. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A graveside service and interment will be held at the Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 15, 2025 with Pastor Edward Daggett officiating. A Celebration of Life service will be held June, 2026 in Douglas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Schellenberger, Pater Schellenberger, Rick Coy, Doug Coy, David Reed, and Leonard Freeburg.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Anna Reed, Caleb Schellenberger, Joshua Schellenberger, and Drew Olson.
