Moretta Brezinsky, age 95, a resident of Plainfield, IL and formerly longtime of Willowbrook, and Cicero, IL, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 5, 1929 in Chicago, IL, the only child of Joseph and Dora Zukauskas.

Moretta was the devoted wife of 59 years of the late Vincent Brezinsky; the loving mother of James Brezinsky and Cheryl (Ronald, Jr.) Muscato; the proud grandmother of Rebecca (John) Dillon, Adam (Elizabeth nee Bannon), Austin and Aaron Muscato and great-grandmother of Mark and Luke Dillon, and Sophia Muscato.

Moretta was the epitome of beauty and grace. From the moment she welcomed you into her home, until you left, you were showered with warmth, love and amazing food. Moretta learned those timeless qualities from her mother, Dora.

Moretta graduated from Morton High School, in Cicero, in 1947, and began to work in Grant Works. She had a wonderful circle of friends, some from elementary school. Moretta met Vince on a blind date, when he was home on leave from the Navy, during the Korean War, while stationed in Hawaii. It was a date she was hesitant to go on. But, she decided to meet this handsome sailor, and they danced the night away. That began a wonderful relationship. Vince proposed to her quickly, hoping she would wait for him, which she did, and they married May 15, 1954. They settled in Cicero, welcoming James and then Cheryl into their family. After grandma Dora's passing, they decided to build their dream home in Willowbrook, and the family, including Grandpa, enjoyed decades there. With James and Cheryl having families of their own, they decided to downsize, and built a villa, (Mom's terminology), in Plainfield, only one mile from Cheryl.

Moretta and Vince loved nothing more than celebrating their grandchildren, watching them participate in whatever school, or sporting event, and being with them always to support and cheer them on.

As the grandchildren launched their own families, Adam with Elizabeth, and now Sophia, and Rebecca with John, and now Mark, and Luke, her love radiated through all, especially the little ones. Austin with so much love to give, would have liked nothing more than to throw Grandma Retta over his shoulder and take her wherever she wanted to go, doing whatever chores she needed, always with a promise of payment in cookies. And Aaron, the daredevil, racing motorcycles in Arizona, was always keeping Grandma on her toes, regularly checking-in and surprising her with a visit from time to time!

Moretta was perfection. She loved perfectly with her heart and soul. When she cooked, it was perfect, especially her baking! She kept a perfect home, so All would feel welcome. She took the time to look perfect, mostly for Vince, and he adored her for it, because he knew she was perfect, inside and out.

She has been waiting almost twelve years to dance with Vince again. I know memories of Moretta, will be treasured forever.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 17, 2:00-6:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Plainfield. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 18, 10:30 AM at St Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Rt. 59, Plainfield. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

My sincere condolences to Moretta's family . I knew Moretta for many years she was a Yoga student of mine. She was more than a student I grew very fond of Moretta and even spent a Christmas Eve at her home. She was a beautiful person with a big smile and a great sense of humor. She would come to yoga class and tell us stories and make us laugh. She was always dressed and makeup done and drove until her late years. I have many memories one I will share .one was when I was going on a cruise with my girlfriends first Cruze ever. I was nervous because in the news there was a woman that had fallen off of the cruise and I was wondering if this was an omen and so I had asked Maretta because I knew her and Vince had gone on many cruises because he was in the Navy and she said he liked boats a lot so they did take a lot of cruises. Maretta I asked is it easy to fall off of a cruise ship? She replied no I don't think so and then she said well maybe with those stilettos on. She always had that twinkle in her eye like she had a fun side to her.. At Christmas she always gave me a Yoga ornament and some of her homemade cookies. I have some of her recipes and I will treasure them forever. I will miss her . We won't have phone calls to update each other on our families lives but I know she is with Vince in her stilettos, dancing the night away. Maybe on a cruise ship in heaven Maretta until we meet again..
