Dr. Morris Dean Ferguson, age 93, of Lebanon, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while enjoying one of his greatest passions-golf.
Born in Wartrace, TN and raised in East Nashville, Dr. Ferguson attended local elementary schools before graduating from Montgomery Bell Academy, where he was a standout linebacker. His hard work and determination earned him both academic and athletic scholarships to Vanderbilt University. He went on to pursue his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
It was during his years in Memphis that he met the love of his life at Bellevue Baptist Church. He and
"Miss Weecie" Ferguson shared 47 beautiful years of marriage, rooted in deep faith, enduring friendship, and mutual devotion, until her passing in 2003.
Dr. Ferguson began his medical career in 1956, which spanned over four decades until his retirement in 1997. In his early years of service, he volunteered at numerous medical facilities across the western United States before returning home to begin his primary practice as a general practitioner at McFarland Hospital. Throughout his career, he faithfully served in many clinics and was widely known for his gentle manner, steady compassion, unwavering commitment to healing others, and a good joke.
He was a respected physician, a devoted family man, and a cherished friend. His middle name, Dean, held special significance as part of a 14th-generation family name-symbolizing a deep legacy of faith and perseverance that shaped the way he lived.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ferguson was a passionate golfer who found joy and peace on the course, often in the company of friends. Along with being a scratch golfer, he also had 8 hole-in-ones to his credit, with one coming this past year. He was also a loyal supporter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, believing strongly in the power of faith-based mentorship for young people.
Above all, he was a proud and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was his greatest joy, and he will be remembered for his generosity, humor, humility, and steadfast love.
Dr. Ferguson is preceded in death by his parents, James Ernest Ferguson and Virginia Ferguson Gunn; his beloved wife, "Miss Weecie" Ferguson, and his sister, Rachel Miller.
He is survived by his children: Richard Morris Ferguson, Russell Dean (Sharon) Ferguson, Jacqueline Ferguson, and Leigh Ann Ferguson (Samuel) Anderson; grandchildren: Ashley Anderson (Ethan) McCormack, Luke (Brittany) Ferguson, Samuel (Sarah) Anderson, James Ferguson, Jacqueline Anderson (Jameson) Sorrels, Kristen Ferguson (Tim) Donayre, and Julie Ann Ferguson; great-grandchildren: Matthew Ferguson, Andrew Ferguson, Andie Kate McCormack, Isaac Donayre, Blaire McCormack along with two expected in 2026, and step-grandchildren, Cory Sewell and Jana Hilton.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the Celebration of "Doc's" Life at 1:00 p.m. at Partlow Funeral Chapel. Pastor Robert "Bob" Johnson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Dr. Ferguson to the Wilson County Fellowship of Christian Athletes at fcawilson.org.

The funniest thing I remember about him was during my days in Nursing School when the conversation came up about which one of us set the field in West End on fire? He, of course started the conversation telling my fellow classmates that he remembered when "I" set it on fire....I believe I remembered that it had something to do with setting a tree on fire (on a windy Spring day) and then going inside and falling asleep on the couch watching a ballgame?? The truth is to be determined by the reader!!

Dr. Ferguson delivered my second son Steven Douglas Grubbs on December 15, 1962. He was a wonderful doctor and a great man.

Sincerest condolences to the family, Doctor Ferguson was my doctor for many many years...until I aged out infact. And he was the BEST DOCTOR I have ever had in my lifetime. He is surely rejoicing in heaven today with his beloved wife. He blessed so many !

With deep respect and sorrow I offer my condolences. I worked for Dr. Ferguson for many years in the sixties. Not all Physicians are Heros : Dr Ferguson was!
