Dr. Morrison Obeng

Dr. Morrison Obeng emigrated to the United States (US) from Ghana, West Africa in 1973. He had his education from Primary School up to the Undergraduate Level in Ghana. He obtained his first Bachelor's degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana. He came to the US in 1973 to pursue further studies in Mathematics, Science and Engineering. He obtained a second Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a Master's degree in Physics from Utah State University, Logan, Utah and a PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.
In Industry, he worked as a Product Engineer for National Semiconductor Corporation (a computer-chip design and manufacturing company) and as a Senior Associate Engineer at IBM before transitioning to academia. In academia, he taught as an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida. He also taught and did research at Bethune-Cookman University (BCU) for 23 years. He retired from BCU as Professor Emeritus of Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
Before coming to the US, Morrison taught in High Schools for 2 years in Ghana after his first Bachelor's degree. While teaching in High Schools in Ghana, he became friends with Peace Corp volunteer Mr. Clark Smith and Canadian Volunteer Mr. Jean-Denis Garceau who became like his brothers.
He married Ruth Alexander Obeng in 1976, the marriage came to an end in 1992. The marriage was blessed with four children, Esther, Andrew, Stephen and Peter and two grandchildren, Sophie and Lily.
He remarried in 2000 to Huguette Peggy Obeng and the marriage lasted till Morrison was called to the Lord in 2024. Mr. Clark Smith served as Morrison's Best Man in 2000 when he got married to Peggy at Trinity Lutheran Church, Holly Hill, Florida
Morrison was accepted in the membership of Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS), Holly Hill in 1996 and served in different leadership positions at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Huguette Peggy Obeng, his daughter Dr. Esther Obeng, his sons Andrew Obeng, Dr. Stephen Obeng (daughter in law Dr. Jenna Obeng), Peter Obeng and granddaughters Sophie Obeng and Lily Obeng.
