OBITUARY:

Toland Upton Michael was born to the late Leander Michael and Dorothy Faye Michael on January 11, 1954, in Savannah, Georgia. His legal name was changed to Toland Anthony Michael after he was baptized as a young man. On Sunday, November 3, 2024, God called him home and said your work here is done.

He was a graduate of Benedictine Military School (’72) where he ran track and was a member of the ROTC. As a young man Toland enjoyed dancing and was a very good artist. He also loved to sing and was a pretty good cook as well, preparing delicious meals much like his mother.

Toland was employed at Georgia Pacific for 18 years as a machinist. In his latter years, he became a prayer warrior and ministered to others whenever needed. You could often find him visiting various churches of all faiths on any given Sunday or during the week. As a people-person, many times he was in the park talking to friends, neighbors or strangers simply discussing a random story or sharing the Word.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter, Darcel Cheree Hall. The eldest of three, Toland is survived by his children, Tolanda (Ryan) Thomas and Toland (Jessica) Michael II, stepson Gwyn Hall, II and his loving sisters Kim Michael Polote and retired Sgt. Deborah G. Michael all of Savannah, GA. He also leaves to cherish his memories, his grandchildren, aunts, an uncle, nieces, a nephew, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and a profound number of loving friends over the years.
