Ms. Jane Holly Stanwich

WATERBURY – It is with profound sadness that the family and friends of Jane Holly Stanwich, age 80
of Waterbury, share the news of her peaceful passing at Masonicare of Wallingford on Saturday August 30, 2025 after an extended illness.

Ms. Stanwich was born on January 7, 1945, in Waterbury and lived there the majority of her life beginning in East Mountain, then Robin Ridge and finally at Masonicare in 2021. The daughter of the late John Anthony and Ruth (Dowd) Stanwich, Jane was highly educated having graduated from St Margaret’s School, Wendell Cross Croft High School, Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing, Syracuse University, St Joseph’s and Southern CT Colleges. Specifically, she earned her RN degree at Waterbury Hospital, her bachelor’s degree in Coronary Care Nursing from Syracuse University, and her Master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing in 1990. She proudly cared for thousands of patients at Waterbury, St Raphael’s, Charlotte Hungerford, and St. Mary’s Hospitals as well as Wellspring and New England Homecare in a variety of roles in nursing whether in the ICU, as an industrial personnel nurse, a community outreach nurse and as an instructor or a teacher of freshman surgical nurse candidates. Over the course of many years, Jane enjoyed several extended trips throughout Europe with friends and family but most of all she loved her faith, her times of soulful retreat or any opportunities to show case her incredible rhythm and dance moves and trips to her favorite water spots. She had a beautiful talent for writing original poems with original impressionistic art to accompany them. All originated from the heart and tied in deep conviction and faith. You were quite lucky if you were one to receive a “Jane original”. Jane lived to enjoy those spontaneous times to just get contagiously silly, but on the flip side she had an inquiring mind that was always busy. She attacked bible study with reckless abandon, like only a theologian would, seeking challenging dialogue with those that knew scripture and could contemplate it on a par with all she knew and believed. Jane sought regular guidance from local clergy near and far but most of all Jane gave much more than she took. She was the quintessential caregiver,not to just family or friends, but to anyone truly in need. Regardless of where she was in her life, she gave of herself. Even though living a rather simple life she lived her life filled with gratitude.

Jane leaves close friends more like family-in-kind: Nancy and Bill Finkenzeller of Waterbury and their children: Kristen Finkenzeller, Kellie Dunne and her husband Rob, a sister, Beth Comerci and her husband, Nick of Peacham, Vermont, her sister-in-law, Maxine Stanwich of Watertown, 1 niece, 4 nephews, 1 great nephew and two great nieces all living out of state. Special thanks and acknowledgement to the staff of Ramage 3 at Masonicare of Wallingford for the loving care shared with Jane throughout her stay there over these past four years. Funeral services for Ms. Stanwich will be held on Friday, September 5th, 2025, when a mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, St Leo the Great Church, 14 Bentwood Ave, Waterbury, CT. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
