Muriel Gelinas Obituary
Muriel (Florent) Gelinas 83, of New Bedford passed away Oct. 7, 2024 at Sacred Heart Nursing home. She was the widow of Paul Gelinas and the daughter of H. George Florent and Annette (Fecteau) Florent.
Born in New Bedford, after graduating from St. Anthony High School, she entered the Sisters of Holy Cross. For several years she was an educator in elementary schools in the New Hampshire area. Muriel left the congregation after 22 years and continued her education earning her PhD from Boston University. She was Administrator of Beacon Hill Nursery School for 13 years, and also was a professor at Fisher College.
She was the sister of the late Janet Mailhotte, and is survived by Paul’s children, Judy East of Florida, Paul Gelinas of Florida, David Gelinas of North Carolina, and Steve Gelinas of Wareham and several cousins and many friends.
Funeral arrangements are from Boulevard Funeral Home with visitation Friday, Oct.11, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend.
