Muriel Elizabeth Hess, 76, of Pittsburgh, PA, peacefully passed away on August 21, 2025, after many years of valiantly fighting several medical conditions. She was born on August 22, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents; Howard E. and Muriel M. Johnston (Goettmann), and brothers; Howard Jr., Jesse, Ralph, and Ronald Johnston.
She graduated from Perry Traditional Academy in 1967. Muriel had a career as a bank teller in downtown Pittsburgh for many years before becoming a stay-at-home wife/mother. She was also a proud member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
Muriel married her loving husband, Ronald Hess, on December 28, 1979, and lived in Ross Township for over 45 years. She was a devoted mother to Kelly (Schmidt) Aultz (Husband Michael), and Samantha (Hess) Shannon. She was a cherished grandmother to Kylie Good (Husband Andy), Makenzie Shannon, Lauren Aultz, Gavin Aultz, Kieran Shannon, Garrett Aultz, Ethan Aultz, and Patrick Shannon III. She would have welcomed her first great-granddaughter this October. She is also survived by siblings; Ellsworth, Eugene (Connie), Ethel, Lloyd, and Carol (Johnston) Foley (late William).
Muriel loved spending time with her loved ones, shopping, and watching the home shopping networks or the Hallmark Channel. She did not love to cook, but her deviled eggs were legendary. She loved to just take a ride and surprise a loved one with a quick visit.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Highway in the North Hills. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 30, with visitation at 9AM at Devlin Funeral Home followed by a processional and graveside service at 10am at Allegheny Memorial Park.
