Murphy Lee Sitting Crow, "Two Strikes," was born on July 10, 1951 to Fern Hand-Sitting Crow and John Sitting Crow Jr in Beulah ND. He was a member of the Dead Grass Society, a child of the Knife Clan, and descendant of Mandan Chief Four Bears and per ancestry would have been the current Mandan Chief.
Murphy enjoyed nature and the outdoors, he would take walks outside whenever he could. On December 16, 2025, it was no exception; he was out taking his daily walk, and during that walk, he began his Spirit journey.
Murphy was a very educated, smart man and achieved his Master's Degree in Business Administration and worked as an Accountant and/or Program Director for different programs throughout Indian Country.
Murphy liked to play multiple sports in his younger years, and in his older years, loved watching sports, especially his nephews and grandchildren. His favorite football team was the Green Bay Packers.
Murphy enjoyed pow-wows and was a champion men's fancy dancer in the late 60's & 70's. He was also an excellent singer and a founding member of the original "Eagle Whistle" singers of Mandaree. They were one of the first groups of young adult male singers that led a resurgence to strengthen the circle for the future generations. He was a drum brother to some of the greats.
His most memorable times were when he traveled and played basketball with the Lakota Coup Counters and won many basketball championships.
Murphy loved riding his horses Tiago and Copper. Attending rodeos was one of his favorite past time. In his early years, he rode broncs and bulls with the Blake and Wells families.
Murphy was a very easy going soul who could be quiet and reserved and also defiant. He made friends easily and was a jokester and liked to push the limits. Many stories can be told by his friends and relatives of his antics and shenanigans. He always made an impression with his crazy stories. He had a lot of friends he called brothers. If he teased you or you had a "Murphy story," you were considered his brother or sister.
Murphy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survived by his children Amy Sitting Crow (Junior), Bernice DuBois (Ben), Carol Red Stone, Myles Lewis (Peggy), Paige Sitting Crow (Jorge). His siblings Susan Sitting Crow-Hall and Tom Sitting Crow (Yolanda), his grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Fern Hand-Sitting Crow and John Sitting Crow Jr; son Stanford Sitting Crow; brother Vernon Sitting Crow; Maternal Grandparents Philip Hand and Rose Hopkins-Hand, Paternal grandparents John Sitting Crow Sr. and Susie Black Hawk-Sitting Crow.
