Myrna Binder, affectionately known as Moppie to her family and many others, passed away on October 15, 2025. She was 85.
Myrna was born in Brooklyn and met her lifelong partner and husband Louis during a visit to the Catskill Mountains where he was playing in a band to work through college. After Lou started singing to her during his band practice, he promised to call her everyday for the rest of his life, a promise that he kept. They lived together in New Jersey throughout their 65 year marriage, raising their family in Teaneck before moving to the Flemington area in 2007.
After an early career as a model, she opened an antiques store called "Myrna's Fancy," where she loved sharing her special treasures with her customers. She also worked as Lou's partner in Lou Binder Creative Services, which provided freelance writing services for various production companies. After many years as two of the most sought after writers in the industry, they retired in 2000.
Shortly after retirement, Myrna became a member of Temple Beth-El in Hillsborough, where she was involved with the Sisterhood and served on many committees. She also selflessly gave her time to others. She volunteered at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital's public clinic after her son, Jeffrey, was diagnosed with and survived non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1975 and was the inspiration for Moppie's Love, a foundation that supports the economic needs of the families of children with cancer.
She was an amazing cook who loved entertaining, often hosting dinner parties and elaborate holiday dinners. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, a variety of games and puzzles, and crocheting special blankets and clothing as gifts. But her greatest joy was being a mom to her son and daughter and a grandmother to her four beloved granddaughters.
Myrna is predeceased by her brother Lawrence Glickman.
Surviving are Louis Binder, daughter Stephaine Almeida and her husband Joseph, son Jeffrey Binder and his wife Mindy, and her four grandchildren: Anna Binder Reardon, Elizabeth Angela Binder, Samantha Rose Almeida, and Isabella Jolie Almeida.
Funeral services will be 11:30am Sunday at Temple Beth El in Hillsborough. Interment will follow at the Flemington Jewish Community Center Cemetery. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.
