Myrna Irene Merrill

Myrna Irene Merrill (nee Cresswell), age 92 passed away peacefully on February 15, 2023. Myrna was born on Staten Island, New York to Albert and Ethel (nee Jensen) of Westerleigh. Myrna spent her early years on Staten Island where she graduated from Curtis High School. In 1948, she married Ralph P. Merrill. Several years later, they built a house in Eltingville where they raised their growing family. In 1973, they moved to Westfield, New Jersey. Myrna was a career homemaker. She enjoyed musical theater, classical music, traveling, entertaining and solving the most challenging word puzzles. During their retirement years, Ralph and Myrna spent time between their homes in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Fort Myers, Florida where they enjoyed time on their cherished sailboat, "The Goomah".
Myrna was predeceased by her husband of 63 year in 2011 as well as her beloved dog, Brandy in 1980.
Myrna is survived by her children, Peter (Mary Ellen), Gale (the late Bob Wiegand), Jill O'Leary (John), Nancy Roche (Tom) and Joseph (Kristi Tucker). She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Melissa, Faith, Meryl, Tom, Christopher, Katie, Ben, David and Andrew as well as seven great-grandchildren: Riley, Valeria, Kaitlyn, Gavin, Brielle, Addison and Caleb.
Myrna will be lovingly remembered by her ever-present smile and warm heart.
A private burial of her ashes will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.
