Anthony (Tony) Picozzi, 79, a Staten Island Native born in New Brighton has passed away after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Danice Scarlotta, his son Anthony and daughter-in-law Susan; his daughter Jackie and daughter-in-law Milena; his beloved grandchildren; Julia and Joseph and his sisters Linda Kazman and Michele Bilotti; and brother-in-law, Tom.
A graduate of Curtis High School, Tony also served in the United States Army as a combat engineer stationed in Germany. After working for the Telephone Company and graduating from the College of Staten Island he became an NYC Firefighter, a career he loved. He served in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island. He retired from Ladder 80 following an injury he suffered in Sam's Taxi fire on New Years Eve 1991. He was awarded 3 FDNY medals of valor over his 20 year career.
He loved boxing, racing, the New York Yankees and Giants. He had a love of classic cars but especially Corvettes, which he was finally able to own in his retirement.
He was a hero without an ego. Strong, brave, funny, smart, and a humble man with a big heart. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend who served his community. A good person, a life well lived. Tony will be truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 3:00 - 7:00 and a Service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11:00 am at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08753.
